Standards

» Content standards adopted by the California State Board of Education

The California Department of Education has set specific guidelines for what skills and content our students should be learning by grade level. Standards have been developed in every grade level K-12 in the content areas of Mathematics, English Language Arts, Social Studies and Science.

Why are standards important?

For several decades, many students were graduating high school with large deficiencies in mathematics, reading, writing, science and social studies. Standards were created to ensure that teachers are teaching important life skills that will be transferable in the top high schools, universities and in the workplace. In addition, standards hold both teachers and students accountable for material that must be mastered before promotion.

Standards and KIPP

KIPP uses the standards as a lens that guides our instruction and as a baseline to ensure that we are preparing our students to be successful in top high school, colleges and the world beyond. We will not promote a student that has not demonstrated proficiency of the state standards; doing so would be setting our students up for failure.
