Testimonials
In the words of KBCP staff and students...
My students and fellow staff members have taught me that hard work, belief, and vision make anything possible. Every day at KIPP has made me a better person; every day is a transformative experience. Watching the fifth graders on the first day of summer school, so nervous and confused—and seeing them transform into articulate, confident, caring scholars renews my faith in the power of education and in the future.
As a team and family, through conflict, tragedy, and joy, we travel together. Truly, when I leave my home every day, I feel embraced by my school family. Teaching at KIPP is the hardest job I’ve ever had, and it is a privilege to be part of something that changes the lives of everyone it touches.
Ms. Duprey, 5th Grade Math
The
main strength of KBCP is the teachers, hands down. I'm always in awe
of how hard our teachers work. I also marvel at the effort put forth
by the vast majority of our KIPPsters. It is this effort that keeps
me motivated.
Mr. Ling, Principal
Choosing
By Ayjai Watts
I have a problem
It starts with two things
Stairs and an elevator
Both go up
But which to choose
Friends take the elevator
Say it’s easier
I look at it
Looks old and unsafe
I take the stairs instead
My face is wet
My feet ache
I feel I should go back
But nearly there
I go on
At last I made it to the top
I feel happy
And then sad
My friends are not here
I check the elevator
It is broken
So now
My friends are gone and I’m here
And that has made all the difference.
KIPP
By Ajanae Scruggs
I chose to come to KIPP,
Not to cut class and skip.
I chose to go to college,
Not lose all my knowledge.
I chose to use my head,
Not sell drugs instead.
I chose to read and write,
Not to just ride my bike.
I chose to study, study, study,
Not to just sell my body.
I chose to stay out of the street,
And stay on beat.
And that!
That has made all the difference.
“Ms.
Patterson [7/8th grade Science teacher] has made boring rest in peace.
She is the opposite of boring and she saved my life. I know ‘saving
my life’ is extreme, but to some extent she did because she is
giving me the chance to live up to my dream to be a veterinarian. She
is so great and I appreciate her so much!”
Eden, 7th grade
“What I like about KIPP is that it is full of teachers who care deeply about their students.”
Frehiwot, 6th grade
“The thing I like best about KIPP is that the teachers help the students get ready for both high school and college.”
Dwayne, 6th grade
“The teachers care about your education and they don’t just care about you coming to school.”
Henry, 6th Grade
“The extra school hours give us more time to learn and have fun at the same time.”
Ruben, 6th grade
“I almost didn’t want to go to KIPP because of the time, but I thought that my future is what I need the most.”
Ayjai, 6th grade
